Job Description
SDLC & RUNTIME We develop and support SDLC platforms and services to our 17,000 engineers worldwide, enabling them to deliver services, products and platforms for their business. Increasingly the firm relies on technology to achieve its commercial goals and deliver value to shareholders through innovative technology solutions. To achieve these ambitions, we must be able to empower our talented engineers by providing a developer environment that is attractive, matches their expectations, keeps them engaged and productive.
We are responsible for Goldman Sachs' mission critical production platforms. Our aim is to innovate and drive technology solutions that will empower our engineers to deliver value to our clients. By joining us, you will be part of a diverse global technical team focusing on solving critical business problems.
WHAT SLANG SDLC IS Securities Database, known as SecDB, was developed in 1993 and quickly became the backbone of Goldman Sachs' risk analytics platform for securities. The development of this proprietary software system marked a significant milestone in Goldman Sachs' technological history. SecDb continues to be a strategic, critical platform for the Firm that we will continue to invest in for the foreseeable future. Slang stands for Securities Language - it is the language of SecDb. It is used by thousands of GS engineers worldwide, with 1500 production releases per day on average. It's our hyper-converged SDLC that supports this rapid development cycle, which our front office businesses rely on.
We are embarking on a monumental journey to deploy and support SecDb to our onshore China business. This is a first-of-a-kind endeavor. We need engineers who can engage with the business in China, and devise tooling and working practices that will overcome the unique challenge that this presents.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Play a critical part in design and implementation in a team-oriented environment
  • Maintain and improve the Slang SDLC workflow and tooling on the SecDb platform
  • Devise new ways to engage and collaborate with our onshore China engineers
  • Focus on user experience and customer satisfaction
  • Interact directly with the business and other tech teams to build innovative solutions to support the GS business
  • Develop quickly on SecDb: changes to production systems can be made and deployed within minutes, while maintaining high quality standards
  • High impact: Every change to our systems is felt by thousands of Slang developers worldwide
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
  • A Masters or PhD ideally in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding and algorithms and data structures
  • Extensive background in object-oriented computer programming: C++ (3+ years), Python (1+ year), Java, or equivalent language, preferably in large scale financial or technical computation
  • Strong software development and design experience, including a clear understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design and core programming concepts
  • Experience in working with large software systems, distributed computing, and databases (SQL and NoSQL)
  • Ability to work cross-functionally as well as the ability to work as a hands-on individual contributor
  • Motivation to learn about trading workflow and financial markets
  • Slang experience is not required but highly advantageous
